Pa·limp·se·st

A manuscript or piece of writing material (such as parchment) that has been scraped or washed clean so it can be reused, but traces of the original writing still remain visible.

Something that has multiple layers or aspects beneath the surface, where earlier versions or traces are still perceptible.

"Her memories were akin to a palimpsest, with old feelings resurfacing beneath new experiences."

Often used metaphorically to describe places, memories, or texts that bear evidence of their history layered beneath the present.

From Medieval Latin palimpsestus, from Ancient Greek παλίμψηστος (palímpsēstos), meaning “scraped again,” from palin (“again”) + psēstos (“rubbed smooth”).
