The ability to produce many new ideas.

Fertile; the ability to produce lots of off-spring.

From Latin fecunditas, derived from fecundus ("fruitful, fertile, productive"), which traces back to the Proto-Indo-European root *dheh₁- ("to set, place, produce"). Related to Latin femina (woman) and fetus (offspring) through the same root idea of bearing/producing.

Entered English in the late 15th century, initially in theological and biological contexts.

Synonyms: <fertility> <fruitfulness> <prolificacy> <reproduction>
