Son·der

The profound realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own, filled with their own ambitions, worries, routines, and relationships.

"As she watched the crowded street from her window, a deep sense of sonder washed over her, and she imagined the hidden lives behind every face."

Coined in 2012 by John Koenig in The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, a neologism intended to name emotions we all feel but rarely have words for.
