Mary Frances Winters coined the term black fatigue to describe "the emotional, physical, and generational toll racism takes on Black people."
Recently, however, in 2025, the term has taken on a more textualist & literalist meaning.
Today, the term refers to the actual fatigue that communities, predominantly American ones, derive from their generalized experiences and grievances with segments of the Black population.
What was once a term used to describe the post-modernistic and personal experiences of Blacks in America confronting racial discrimination, has become a more visceral emergence of exhaustion to segments of the Black populace who, for lack of better words, act unruly.
